Asbury Park Mayor John Moor endorsed Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Tenafly) for governor on Thursday.
Moor praised Gottheimer’s vision for New Jersey’s economy, arguing his experience as a moderate congressman would lead to effective governing in Trenton.
“Since day one, Josh has prioritized addressing New Jersey’s most pressing issue: the economy,” Moor said in a release. “Josh is a principled leader who has worked across the aisle in Washington as co-chair of the Problem Solvers Caucus to get things done for Jersey families. I’m confident that Josh’s commonsense approach to legislating and commitment to working with anyone to support hard-working families will create a stronger, more affordable New Jersey.”
Asbury Park cast 618 votes in the 2021 Democratic gubernatorial primary and 905 in the 2024 presidential primary. The city, with 4,762 registered Democrats, has the 10th-most registered Democrats of the 55 municipalities in Monmouth County.
“I’m honored to earn Mayor Moor’s endorsement,” Gottheimer said. “Asbury Park holds a special place in my heart. My mom graduated from Asbury Park High School, and I spent many summers as a young kid going to Sandy’s Arcade on the boardwalk. As the ‘Lower Taxes, Lower Costs’ Governor, I’ll be laser-focused on making Jersey the best place to live, work, and raise a family.”
