Piscopo will help Ghassali House bid

By David Wildstein, February 17 2020 11:47 pm

Radio talk show host Joe Piscopo will headline a Bergen County Pro-America rally in Paramus on Friday to boost the campaign of Republican congressional candidate Michael Ghassali.

Ghassali, a two-term mayor of Montville, is challenging Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) in New Jersey’s 5th district.

Piscopo and Gottheimer have something in common: they both grew up in North Caldwell, graduating West Essex High School 24 years apart.

In 2017, the former Saturday Night Live star and Donald Trump supporter — Piscopo, not Gottheimer — considered running for governor, as an independent.  A Quinnipiac University poll had Piscopo receiving 14% of the statewide vote in a race where Democrat Phil Murphy led Republican Kim Guadagno by a 41%-21% margin.

Piscopo has not ruled out running for governor next year, although last week he broadly suggested that he might support an old friend, Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick.

Bramnick hinted that he Piscopo might make a good Lt. Governor.
