Former Gov. Phil Murphy and former First Lady Tammy Murphy are hosting a high-dollar fundraiser for New York Gov. Kathy Hochul’s re-election campaign at their Middletown home next Wednesday.
The event comes weeks before the first FIFA World Cup match in New Jersey, an event that has created some tensions between the two states over funding and transportation issues. The latest issue is a decision by the New York/New Jersey Host Committee to pay the full cost of 1,000 and give them to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani for exclusive use by New York City residents at $50, including round-trip bus service from Manhattan.
Gov. Mikie Sherrill has been sparring with the host committee.
Murphy and Hochul disagreed on issues from time to time, especially a fight over congestion pricing.
The Murphys held a fundraiser for Hochul at their home in March 2022. Hochul also attended an event there in October 2024 to raise $1.2 million for Democratic gubernatorial candidates.
