The race for the 2025 Democratic gubernatorial nomination is underway, with one prospective candidates venturing out of his home turf for municipal swearing in ceremonies.

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop administered the oath of office to Sammy Joshi, the new mayor of Edison.  Edison is New Jersey’s sixth-largest municipality, and the place Fulop grew up.

He also swore in Hillside Mayor Dahlia Vertreese to a second term.  He played a role in the Joshi and Vertreese campaigns last year.

Fulop was also sworn in on Saturday to his third term as Jersey City mayor.  The oath of office was administered by Newark North Ward Councilman Anibal Ramos.

Two candidates have publicly stated their intent to run for governor in 2025, when Democrat Phil Murphy is term-limited: Senate President Steve Sweeney told a labor convention in December that he would run, and Republican Jack Ciattarelli, who came close to ousting Murphy last year, said during his concession speech in November that he would run again in four years.”
