First Lady Tammy Murphy has tested positive for COVID-19 after exposure to a non-family contact in their home. Gov. Phil Murphy tested negative.
The Murphy’s took a rapid antigen test earlier today.
“Today, I tested positive for COVID-19. I’m very grateful for all the well wishes,” the First Lady said. “Thankfully, I’m vaccinated and boosted and currently asymptotic. Take this as an opportunity to protect yourself – get vaccinated, boosted, wear a mask, and stay safe.”
According to a statement released by the governor’s office, both Murphys are “vaccinated and boosted, and have exercised caution whenever possible, including double masking.”
“They urge all New Jerseyans to get vaccinated, get boosted, wear a mask, and keep themselves and their loved ones safe,” the statement said. Murphy, his office stated, will continue to wear a mask in public settings.
The statement said that “required procedures for reporting, case investigation, and contact tracing have been followed.”
Murphy returned to New Jersey on December 30 after a family vacation in Costa Rica and appeared at a public event on December 31. The Murphys will continue to take rapid tests over the coming days.
While the Center for Disease Control does not require people who have been vaccinated and boosted to quarantine, Murphy will shift his scheduled briefing on Monday to a virtual format.
