Election guidance to come within a week, Murphy says

Guidance on the state’s November elections will arrive in the next week, Gov. Phil Murphy said Monday.

“We’re going to have more guidance on this, I guess, within a week or so, not just the lessons learned but also what the fall may look like,” he said.

There’s been little public indication of what the general election will look like, and Murphy has repeatedly demurred on the specifics of the November races, saying only that his administration would have something to say about them in mid-August.

It’s likely the final system will in many ways resemble the state’s hybrid primaries, which saw most voters in the state receive mail-in ballots with in-person provisional voting available at a reduced number of polling places.

“We think largely it was a very good result, particularly balancing the sacred right to vote at the center of Democracy along with public health and respecting people’s health and vote-by-mail and in-person,” Murphy said of the July races Monday.

In-person voting is largely responsible to the guidance delay.
