Congressional leadership fund commits another $500,000 to boost Kean

House GOP leadership PAC still eyeing Malinowski’s seat

A super PAC with ties to Republican House Leadership has committed to spending another $500,000 to boost State Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean’s (R-Westfield) House bid.

The new money is part of a national $45 million push by the Congressional Leadership Fund to boost Republican House candidates ahead of the general election.

By reserving TV spots early, the PAC can guarantee the lowest possible ad rates, though the numbers often move as the election nears.

The GOP views Malinowski, a first-term congressman who served as an assistant secretary of state in President Barack Obama’s administration, as their top target in the state.

The new reservations announced Tuesday did not include specific funding for Republican challengers in the 3rd, 5th and 11th districts, though the Congressional Leadership Fund has reserved $8.6 million in ads in the Philadelphia media market.

That money could be used to boost Kean and third-district Republican candidate David Richter, who is seeking to oust Rep. Andy Kim (D-Marlton).

“CLF is doubling down in the races where we know we can make a big impact and that includes keeping New Jersey Democrats on defense,” said CLF Press Secretary Will Reinert. “The investment we’re making today will ensure Andy Kim and Tom Malinowski are kept on their heels and are forced to answer for their extreme, and out-of-touch records in Congress.”
