GOP gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli has seventeen more days to pick his running mate.
Robert Giles, the director of the state Division of Elections, advised Ciattarelli in a letter on July 14 that the deadline to designate his selection of the Republican candidate for Lt. Governor is 5 PM on August 6.
Ciattarelli could still announce his choice earlier.
Appearing on the New Jersey Globe Power Hour on Talk Radio 77 WABC on the Saturday after the primary election, Ciattarelli initially said that he would have his choice set by the end of June. He backed off the self-imposed deadline the following week.
Four years ago, Democrat Phil Murphy announced his choice of then-Assemblywoman Sheila Oliver as his running mate on July 25. Republican Kim Guadagno went with Woodcliff Lake Mayor Carlos Rendo on July 27.
In 2013, Democrat Barbara Buono announced that she would run with Milly Silva on July 29. Republican Chris Christie announced that Guadagno would run with him on July 20, 2009. Gov. Jon Corzine chose State Sen, Loretta Weinberg four days later.
Giles told Ciattarelli to file a gubernatorial selection certification, an oath of allegiance, a certificate of acceptance and a criminal conviction disclosure statement for his running mate to the Division of Elections’ post office box or via email.
