Update: Licitra announced his candidacy on Monday afternoon.
The early favorite for an open seat on the Monmouth County Board of Freeholders appears to be Ross Licitra, a former narcotics detective who now runs the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ Monmouth County branch.
Licitra is expected to announce his bid for the GOP nomination today.
One of the incumbent freeholders, Patrick Impreveduto, announced recently that he will not seek re-election to a second term in 2020.
Freeholder Lillian Burry, 84, has not yet said if she will seek reelection to a sixth term this year.
Monmouth County Republicans will hold their nominating convention on February 8.
Licitra worked for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office before joining the SPCA as executive director in 2015.
“I have always been a common sense, fiscally responsible leader and I want to bring my skills and experiences to the Freeholder Board,” Licitra said. I am eager to work side by side with our great Monmouth County team to continue the wonderful work that they have been doing at the county level to keep Monmouth county safe and affordable,” said Licitra. “As a Freeholder, I will continue to support and protect our core values that have made Monmouth County and our local communities so great to live and work in.”
