Anthony Cureton, the former president of the Bergen County NAACP, is the choice of Bergen County Democratic Chairman Louis Stellato to run for Sheriff in the November election, a Bergen Democratic official told the New Jersey Globe.

Cureton spent fifteen years as an Englewood police officer and has been the director of inmate social services and education for the Bergen County Sheriff’s office.

Democrats will meet on Tuesday evening to select a candidate.

Saddle Brook Police Chief Robert Kugler is already in the race to succeed Democrat Michael Saudino, who resigned last week after racist and homophobic comments were caught on tape.
