Billhimer to be next Ocean County Prosecutor

Ex-Democratic Assembly candidate interned for Lautenberg

Bradley Billhimer, a former intern in the office of U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg, is slated to become the new Ocean County Prosecutor.

He is expected to be named next week as the acting prosecutor, replacing Joseph Coronoto.  Coronoto had been named to the post by Gov. Chris Christie in 2013.

Billhimer is Gov. Phil Murphy’s choice for the post.

One source said that Billhimer got the post over Steven Secare, a Democrat with a long history of representing municipalities and utility authorities in Ocean County.  Secare, the source said, was being pushed by Republican State Sen. Bob Singer (R-Lakewood).

Billhimer, 48, clerked for Superior Court Judge Barbara Ann Villano and has practiced law in Toms River since 2000.  He was the Democratic candidate for State Assembly in the heavily Republican 9th district in 2011, losing to incumbents Brian Rumpf and DiAnne Gove by more than 12,000 votes.
