Though he lost, Josh Welle still outspent Rep. Chris Smith (R-Hamilton).

According to post-election reports filed with the Federal Elections Commission, Welle raised $1,838,536 and spent $1,705,368.

That means Welle spent $13.45 for each of his 126,766 votes.

Smith raised $1,501,795 and spent $1,528,777, or $9.38 for each of his 163,065 votes.

Those spending figures do not include independent expenditures made for or against either candidate, nor do they include spending made by candidates’ political action committees.

Smith reported having $64,163 on hand at the end of the race. Welle had $57,133 left in his campaign account.
