Two International Brotherhood of Teamsters unions – Local 676 and Joint Council 53 — have endorsed Rep. Andy Kim (D-Marlton) for re-election to a second term in New Jersey’s 3rd district.
“Our members know who Andy stands with, and that’s with the working people of New Jersey,” says Local 676 president Howard W. Wells. “We trust him to do the right thing for working families. He’s been a leader on Butch Lewis, a fighter for us and we’ll fight just as hard for him.”
The endorsement comes just weeks after Republican Kate Gibbs, a former Burlington County Freeholder who works for the Operating Engineers Local 825, announced that she would challenge Kim in 2020.
Kim narrowly ousted two-term Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-Toms River) in 2018 even though the New Jersey State Building & Construction Trades Council had endorsed the incumbent.
“Working people built this country and deserve a Congress that looks out for them and not partisan, corporate interests,” Kim said in a statement announcing the endorsement. “They know I’ve got their back, and I’m proud that they’ve got mine.”
The International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers of New Jersey, The International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE), and the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) have already endorsed Kim’s re-election.
