A super PAC supporting Kate Gibbs for Congress has spent $164,800 on ads criticizing David Richter, the other Republican candidate seeking the chance to take on freshman Rep. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown) in New Jersey’s 3rd district.
Jersey Real spent $140,000 of that airing a TV ad that ties Richter to a shadowy business deal between a subsidiary of his former company, Hill International, and Joe Biden’s brother.
Another $24,800 was spent on direct mail that also attacked Richter for his ties to Biden.
Script: “Who got a billion dollar backroom deal with the Bidens? Politician Dave Richter. Dave Richter teamed up with Joe Biden’s brother and got a billion dollar insider deal with the Obama administration. The media called it a sordid tale of crony capitalism. It was shady, creepy and greedy. But that’s David Richter. Buddy with the Bidens and bad for New Jersey.”
Jersey Real was founded earlier this year by former Bob and Kathy Hugin, Candy Straight and Laura Overdeck to “help make sure women running for office have the support they need.”
The super PAC raised $210,000 as of June 17, according to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.
Hill, one of the nation’s largest construction, hired James Biden in 2010, apparently to help the company win lucrative contracts in the Middle East.
Richter has denied the allegations.
“I have no ties to the Bidens. Jim Biden worked at a Hill subsidiary for a couple of years. That subsidiary did not report to me. I was not in favor of investing in that company,” Richter told the New Jersey Globe in March. “After several years of failure, it was shut down at my insistence, and I’ve never seen or heard from Jim Biden since.”
