Sires banks $242k for ’22 re-election bid

Rep. Albio Sires (D-West New York) raised $45,564 during the 2nd quarter of 2021 and now had $242,873 cash-on-hand as he prepares to seek re-election in New Jersey’s 8th district next year.

Sires has raised $109,429 since starting his ninth term in Congress in January.

So far this year, Sires has contributed $1,000 to State Sen. Joseph Cryan (D-Union), who faced a primary challenge, and $500 to his former aide, Mark Gyorfy, who is seeking re-election to the Morris Township Committee.

A former West New York mayor and New Jersey Assembly Speaker, Sires won a 2006 special election to replace Bob Menendez, who was appointed to the U.S. Senate.

Sires easily dispatched two primary opponents in 2020, defeating Hector Oseguera by 29,257 votes, 70%-27%.    He won the general election by a 74%-25% margin against Republican Jason Todd Mushnick,

He chairs the House Foreign Affairs Western Hemisphere Subcommittee.
