Rep. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown), now known as the “Gottheimer of the South,” was able to bank a little money while winning a second term in Congress and now has $551,834 in his campaign warchest as he prepares to run again next year in a district that won’t be drawn until late this year or early in 2022.
Kim reported raising $32,298 between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve. He raised a behemoth $7,358,014 for his re-election against self-funder David Richter and went back to Congress with a 33,513-vote margin, 53%-45%.
He spent $6,869,993 to beat Richter, a former Hill International CEO. Richter raised $1,524,774, including a $700,000 personal loan.
A former Obama White House staffer, Kim won the 3rd district House seat by a narrow 3,973 votes, 50%-49%, in 2018 against two-term Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-Toms River).
Since entering the race against MacArthur in June 2017, Kim has raised a whopping $13,797,548 in a district that leans Republican.
