Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair) will co-sponsor H.R. 1, a voting rights and anti-corruption bill that proposes reforms in campaign finance laws, strengthen cybersecurity in elections, and enhancing government ethics laws.

The legislation is aimed at creating greater transparency on how lobbyists and super PACS are spending their money

“I am joining this good faith effort to strengthen our democracy by co-sponsoring H.R. 1, the For the People Act,” said Sherrill. “From improving voting infrastructure in New Jersey, to making it easier to cast a ballot and increasing disclosure of campaign donations, H.R. 1 addresses many concerns I hear from residents in our community regarding transparency and accountability in our national elections. I support moving this legislation forward and will work to improve the bill further with my colleagues as it makes its way through Congress.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has called the bill the “Democrat Politician Protection Act.”
