Serrano Glassner gets heap of endorsements from Morris County

Morris GOP chair Ali endorses Mendham mayor for U.S. Senate, as do six state legislators

Mendham Borough Mayor Christine Serrano Glassner’s campaign for the U.S. Senate picked up a huge number of endorsements in her native Morris County today, among them Morris GOP chair Laura Marie Ali, six state legislators, six county commissioners, and 21 local mayors.

Serrano Glassner is currently the frontrunner for the Republican nomination to take on Senator Bob Menendez – though Menendez’s indictment last Friday on federal bribery charges, and subsequent calls from top state Democrats for the senator to resign, mean that the 2024 race is in significant flux at the moment.

“GOP leaders throughout Morris County stand in support of our hometown candidate, Christine Serrano Glassner, in her race for the U.S. Senate,” Ali said in a statement. “The people of New Jersey see right through the sudden change of heart from Bob Menendez’s former allies in the Democrat Party since his indictment on Friday. They are all in it for their own power, but Mayor Serrano Glassner and the Morris County leaders behind her are in this race to return power to the people where it belongs.”

Ali’s endorsement, coupled with that of every other member of the county GOP executive committee, puts Serrano Glassner in a strong position to win the Morris Republican organizational line next year.

The six state legislators to weigh in for Serrano Glassner are State Sen. Joe Pennacchio (R-Montville), Assemblyman Christian Barranco (R-Jefferson), Assemblyman Brian Bergen (R-Denville), State Sen. Jon Bramnick (R-Westfield), Assemblywoman Michele Matsikoudis (R-New Providence), and Assemblywoman Nancy Muñoz (R-Summit); the latter trio are from Union County but represent several Morris towns in the legislature.

Also on the list is Chester Township Mayor Mike Inganamort, who is the Republican nominee for Assembly in a safely Republican district this year. Three other Morris County legislators – Senate Minority Leader Anthony M. Bucco (R-Boonton), Assemblyman Jay Webber (R-Morris Plains), and Assemblywoman Aura Dunn (R-Mendham) – have yet to make an endorsement.

Serrano Glassner previously received the endorsement of Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-Westfield), who represents the western parts of Morris County. She currently faces several lesser-known challengers in the GOP Senate primary, most notably immigration consultant Shirley Maia-Cusick; other potential candidates are considering entering the race as well.
