Former Denville Mayor Howard Milligan, who served in the 1960’s, passed away on January19 at age 91. He was a close friend and neighbor of Robert Vesco, a financier whose $200,000 contribution to the 1972 Nixon campaign led to obstruction of justice charges against two former Nixon cabinet members and former New Jersey Senate Majority Leader (and 1969 gubernatorial candidate) Harry Sears. Vesco was a fugitive until his death in Cuba in 2007. Milligan was among a group of New Jerseyans who spoke in Vesco’s behalf during the scandal.
