Republican Jewish Coaliton endorses Tom Kean

The Republican Jewish Coalition has endorsed Tom Kean, Jr. for Congress in New Jersey’s 7th district.

Kean, the minority leader of the New Jersey Senate, faces freshman Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes) in one of the nation’s most politically competitive congressional districts.

“Tom Kean, Jr. has a proven record of mainstream conservative leadership in New Jersey,” said Sam Markstein, the RJC national political director.  “Tom Malinowski is a down-the-line liberal who backs the Green New Deal and votes with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez 94% of the time.”

Malinowski, a former assistant U.S. Secretary of State in the Obama administration, was elected in 2018 by 16,200 votes against five-term Republican Rep. Leonard Lance (R-Clinton Township).

Markstein accused Malinowski of laying the groundwork for the anti-Israel Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement when he was a lobbyist for Human Rights Watch, and said he was one of the Obama administration officials who promoted the Iran nuclear deal.

“Malinowski’s number one contributor is the far-left, anti-Israel group J Street, which has raised more than $60,000 for his re-election,” said Markstein.  “Tom Kean is an ally of the Jewish community in New Jersey.”

Malinowski was one of eleven New Jersey House members to back Israel on the BDS vote.

“I am categorically opposed to BDS, because it seeks to delegitimize the state of Israel, opposes a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and encourages anti-Semitism,” he said in a statement after the 2019 vote. “I am a co-sponsor of House Resolution 246, which unequivocally condemns BDS, and have been leading Congressional efforts to combat anti-Semitic violence and hate speech in the United States and around the world.”
