Rep. Andy Kim (D-Marlton) is receiving a fundraising boost from New Jersey native Paul Begala.
“I’ve seen my share of elections. And with each cycle, dark money’s dominance has overpowered the voice of everyday Americans more and more. It makes me sick, which is why I’m so grateful that we’ve got champions like New Jersey Rep. Andy Kim in our corner,” wrote Begala, a nationally prominent political consultant who helped propel Bill Clinton to the presidency in 1992.
Kim is seeking re-election to a second term after upsetting Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-Toms River) in the 2018 mid-term elections. He is pushing hard to maximize his fundraising after his first three months in Congress.
“In Congress, Andy’s calling dark money what it is — unethical and unjust. That didn’t sit well with the GOP, nor the billionaire buddies they’ve got on speed dial,” Begala wrote in his fundraising pitch. “That’s why Andy is a top target of the Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF), a dark-money PAC endorsed by GOP leadership.”
While Begala achieved fame from the Clinton campaign and his time as a CNN political commentator, he became well-known in New Jersey in 1988 when he helped U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg win a second term against retired Army General and Heisman Trophy winner Pete Dawkins.
