Former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is raising money for Andy Kim’s re-election campaign in New Jersey’s 3rd district.
“As President Obama’s Secretary of State, I worked with Andy Kim in the White House Situation Room. And I proudly watched him win one of the closest House races in the country in November,” Kerry said in an e-mail today. “But now, Republicans have made defeating Andy a top priority in 2020 — if we don’t move quickly, his seat could be lost.”
Kim (D-Marlton) narrowly defeated two-term Rep. Tom MacArthur last fall.
“Andy is running for re-election in one of the most important House races in the country, and nonpartisan analysts have already rated this seat a ‘toss-up’,” Kerry wrote.
Kerry, a former Massachusetts senator and the Democratic presidential nominee in 2004, campaigned in New Jersey last year for Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Rocky Hill). A former assistant U.S. Secretary of State under Kerry, Malinowski ousted five-term Rep. Leonard Lance (R-Clinton) in the 2018 mid-term elections.
