La Alianza Civica Ministerial, a Passaic County Ministers’ Alliance, has endorsed Republican Bob Hugin for U.S. Senate.

The group consists of small pastors of congregations of about 30 people or less, according to a Hispanic pastors list contained in an internal Christie for Governor campaign document from 2013.

“Bob Hugin is a man of honor and integrity, and we need a leader like him working on behalf of the people of New Jersey in Washington,” said Rev. David Rios, the alliance president.   “We’re proud to endorse him for U.S. Senate and look forward to working with him to improve the quality of life for all New Jerseyans.”

Rios backed Republican Chris Christie for governor in 2013, and La Alianza Civica Ministerial endorsed Rep. Steve Rothman (D-Englewood) in the 2012 Democratic primary against Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-Paterson).  Pascrell won 90% of the vote in Passaic County in that race.

Last Friday, the Latino Leadership Alliance also endorsed Hugin. That group had also backed Christie.

  1. Supporting and voting against ones own self interest is not a unheard of phenomenon, doing it in the face of the right wing agenda of today drives one to ask that the books of these congregations donations be opened.
