Norcross re-elected for fourth full term

By Nikita Biryukov, November 03 2020 9:18 pm

Rep. Donald Norcross (D-Camden) will win a fourth full term in the House, the New Jersey Globe projects.

He will defeat former Collingswood School Board member Claire Gustafson, who never really had a path to victory in the heavily Democratic 1st congressional district.

Norcross, a former president of the South Jersey AFL-CIO and the only electrician in Congress, is a close ally of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

He chairs the House Armed Services Committee’s Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee, a position that gives him oversight over Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, which abuts the district.

Republicans lost the first district in 1974 amid a Watergate-fueled landslide and have not won it since.
