Sue Altman, one of three Democratic candidates running in New Jersey’s highly competitive 7th congressional district, unveiled an endorsement today from New Jersey Citizen Action (NJCA), a prominent progressive advocacy group.
“[Altman] has never stopped working to make New Jersey a state that works for everyone,” NJCA executive director Dena Mottola Jaborska said in a statement. “She has been a consistently powerful advocate for abortion rights and the environment and has been an outspoken champion against government corruption and incompetence.”
Altman, the former New Jersey director of the Working Families Party and a top figure in the state’s progressive circles, had already gotten individual endorsements from Mottola Jaborska and Patricia Campos-Medina, the chair of NJCA’s political action committee.
NJCA’s statement did not mention either of Altman’s Democratic primary opponents, former U.S. State Department official Jason Blazakis and Summit Council President Greg Vartan – but it did take a shot at the 7th district’s Republican incumbent, Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-Westfield).
“Kean, Jr. has voted with the extreme right wing of the Republican Party, which has sought to undermine the very foundations of our democracy, mounted an unending attack against women’s and reproductive rights, and has failed to address the many problems facing everyday Americans,” Mottola Jaborska said. “Kean is out of step with people in his district and has further isolated himself by refusing to engage with them in town halls or other forms of outreach.”
