U.S. Senator Bob Menendez says that if President Donald Trump told lawyer Michael Cohen to lie to Congress, that would rise to the level of “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

“What is it that (Trump) is hiding that he would say to…Michael Cohen ‘do not talk about the Trump Tower in Russia’?”

Menendez was responding to a Buzzfeed story that Trump directed Cohen’s testimony regarding negotiations to build a Trump Tower in Moscow.

“If that story is true, then telling an individual to lie to Congress, to commit perjury is clearly a felony and is clearly a crime. And in my mind, be part of raising the high crimes and misdemeanors,” Menendez said. “It’s extraordinary. It’s stunning. And it deserves to get to the bottom of, which is why Special Council Muller’s investigation needs to be protected at every cost.”
