The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) has endorsed Amy Kennedy for Congress in New Jersey’s 2nd district against freshman Rep. Jeff Van Drew (D-Dennis).
The LCV did not endorse Van Drew in 2018 after being rated the worst Democrat in their 2017 ratings.
Just five months ago, the LCV gave Van Drew a 93% score on his environmental record. That’s an identical score to Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair), who was endorsed by the LCV in January.
“Amy Kennedy will consistently fight for South Jersey’s coastal communities by building resilient infrastructure and standing up to big polluters to ensure that our coasts remain free of oil and gas drilling,” said Ed Potosnak, the executive director of the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters. “She will advance smart investments in clean energy to protect South Jersey from the threat of climate change.”
The League of Conservation Voters endorsement of Kennedy puts them on the opposite side of another influential environmental group. The Sierra Club has endorsed Van Drew.
“From the Jersey Shore to the South Jersey farms that make up the majority of agricultural land in our state, climate change poses an existential threat to South Jersey,” Kennedy said. “I’m proud to have the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund and I’m committed to fighting the devastating effects of climate change. In Congress, I will help protect our air, land, water, and shores and make our communities more resilient.”
