Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver has endorsed Amy Kennedy for Congress in New Jersey’s 2nd ditrict.
“Amy Kennedy understands the challenges facing our nation and knows what it means to lead with moral clarity and strength during these unprecedented times,” said Oliver. “She knows that we cannot move forward if we’re leaving entire communities behind and has built a diverse coalition of progressive and grassroots supporters to give South Jersey the representation it deserves. I’m proud to endorse her candidacy for Congress because I know she’s a leader who’ll get things done for the people of South Jersey.”
Oliver’s announcement follows yesterday’ endorsement of Kennedy by Gov. Phil Murphy.
The endorsement by Oliver, the first black woman to win statewide office in New Jersey, is significant because of her other post as the Murphy administration’s point-person on Atlantic City.
Kennedy is one of five Democrats seeking the the chance tun take on Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis), a freshman who was elected as a Democrat in 2018 and switched parties in 2019 after refusing to vote to impeach President Donald Trump.
