The Planned Parenthood Action Fund endorsed Amy Kennedy for Rep. Jeff Van Drew’s (R-Dennis) House seat Thursday.

“Right now, we’re facing serious threats to abortion rights and other crucial health care services. Amy Kennedy is committed to protecting and expanding health care access, including sexual and reproductive health care,” fund president Alexis McGill Johnson said. “We know Amy will fight efforts to strip health care from millions of people and we are proud to endorse her. We look forward to working with Amy in Congress to advance meaningful change.”

The group put more than $1 million behind independent expenditures in 2016 and 2018.

Unlike other Republicans who’ve seen their opponents backed by Planned Parenthood’s political arm, Van Drew has a high rating from the group, winning 100% ratings from both the action fund and NARAL Pro-Choice America in 2019.

“I’m honored to have the endorsement of Planned Parenthood Action Fund. I’m committed to fighting for the people of South Jersey and ensuring everyone has access to affordable health care, especially in the midst of a global pandemic,” Kennedy. “It’s more important than ever that we’re standing up for women, protecting their right to choose and giving them access to health care and reproductive health care.”
