House candidate Amy Kennedy a second television ad and her first general election radio ad Wednesday.
Kennedy narrates the 30-second TV spot, title “Real Solutions,” and is depicted speaking with masked constituents as she urges lower healthcare costs and continuing coverage for pre-existing conditions, a protection that could fade should a Trump administration lawsuit seeking to strike the Affordable Care Act prove successful.
The ad features only a brief mention of Kennedy’s opponent, Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis). As Kennedy calls for “real solutions” instead of “political games,” an image of Van Drew, a former Democrat, shaking hands with President Donald Trump in the oval office shortly after the congressman’s defection to the GOP flashes on screen.
The TV spot will play on broadcast and cable stations in all of the the second district’s counties starting tonight, though it’s unclear how long the ad will stay up on the air or how much money the campaign put behind the buys.
“Real Solutions” Script: Healthcare costs are out of control. The only way to ensure that people get the healthcare they need is through real solutions… Not political games. In Congress, I’ll work to lower healthcare costs… Protect coverage for pre-existing conditions, And I’ll stand up to the drug companies to lower prescription prices. Even before the COVID crisis, too many people in South Jersey were denied access to mental health services and affordable healthcare. It’s time for that to change.
Kennedy also narrates the radio ad. During that spot, titled “recovery,” runs for 60 seconds, the candidate pledges to put the district’s small businesses first. It also makes a shot at “the self-serving political games we’re getting from our leaders.”
The radio ad will run on throughout the district on Atlantic City stations, though it’s not clear how long the ad will run or how much money it’ll cost the Kennedy campaign.
Recovery Script: This is Amy Kennedy.
What’s happening to families and small businesses in South Jersey is devastating. This crisis is crushing us… economically, physically and emotionally. Politics should never get in the way of making sure everyone has good healthcare and access to a financial lifeline. But sadly, that’s exactly what’s going on as more businesses go under and access to health insurance disappears. With healthcare costs soaring out of control the only way to ensure people get the healthcare they need is through real solutions… not the self-serving political games we’re getting from our leaders. I’m Amy Kennedy. In Congress, I’ll work to reduce healthcare costs… Protect coverage for pre-existing conditions… And I’ll stand up to the drug companies to lower prescription prices. As your next Representative I will always put South Jersey’s middle class and small businesses first. I’m Amy Kennedy. I’m running for Congress and I approve this message.
