The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 164, a hugely influential building trades union in Bergen County, has endorsed Rep. Josh Gottheimer for re-election to a third term.

“For the nearly 3,000 members of IBEW Local 164 in the state of New Jersey, there is no greater champion for the hardworking men and women of labor than Josh Gottheimer,” said IBEW Local 164 Business Manager Dan Gumble,. “Whether it is fighting for us in Congress or standing up for us in Bergen County, Josh has always had our back. We are proud to endorse him for reelection.”

Gottheimer faces a primary challenge in New Jersey’s 5th district from Arati Kreibich, a Glen Rock councilwoman who is running with Bernie Sanders’ endorsement.

A poll conducted for the Gottheimer campaign last month by TargetSmart showed the incumbent with a 66%-23 against Kreibich.

Known as the Human Fundraising Machine, Gottheimer has more than $8.4 million cash-on-hand.  He has the endorsements of Gov. Phil Murphy, U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The former Clinton White House speechwriter unseated seven-term Rep. Scott Garrett (R-Wantage) in 2016 by four percentage points and was re-elected by sixteen points in 2018.

Donald Trump carried New Jersey’s 5th district by one percentage point in 2016– a 4,089-vote plurality.

“The hardworking men and women of labor are a backbone of our communities in New Jersey and I thank all of the members of IBEW Local 164 for this vote of confidence,” Gottheimer said.
