Hirsh Singh has won the Ocean County Republican organization line for U.S. Senate, defeating Rik Mehta by a 106 to 77 vote for the chance to take on Cory Booker.

“Ocean County has always led, even when my family first came to America, was first in Lakewood,” Singh said. “All I have to say is this is my home. You fought for me. Now, just watch how I fight for you.”

This was Singh’s first victory in a convention season that has seen Mehta, a former U.S. Food and Drug administration official, win 11 straight county endorsements.

Mehta had won the recommendation of the Ocean GOP steering committee.

Natalie Rivera received 5 votes,

A fourth candidate, Tricia Flanagan, was not on the ballot after she was unable to find someone to second her nomination.

Mehta has won organization endorsements in Burlington,  Camden, Gloucester, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Monmouth, Passaic, Somerset, Union and Warren counties.
