The Human Fundraising Machine slowed down a little between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve.
Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) raised $30,701 between November 27 and December 31 after winning re-election to a second term by nearly fourteen percentage points in the 2018 mid-term elections.
Gottheimer, who has shown extraordinary fundraising prowess during his first two House races, ended the year with $4,143,034 in his campaign warchest.
The Bergen County Democrat has one more race to run in the current 5th district before the map is redrawn after the 2020 census.
Year-end voter registration numbers released by the state Division of Elections give Democrats a slight edge, with just 3,915 more Democrats than Republicans in a district that President Donald Trump carried in 2016.
Gottheimer is expected to seek re-election to a third term next year and Republicans have no obvious candidate to take him on.
Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi (R-River Vale), thought to be one of the strongest potential challengers, has already ruled out running for Congress in 2020.
