Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) has endorsed Brigid Callahan Harrison for the Democratic nomination for Congress in New Jersey’s 2nd district.
“She is running a strong campaign focused on the issues that unite us — ensuring access to affordable health care for all, protecting our clean air and water, fighting for racial justice, and helping grow the economy and create good jobs,” said Gottheimer, a Bergen County Democrat. “I look forward to working with Brigid in Congress to fight for Democratic priorities and values and serve the people of New Jersey.”
Gottheimer is the second House member to take sides in the race to take on Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis). Van Drew was elected as a Democrat in 2018 and switched to the Republican Party in December 2019.
Harrison also has the backing of U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker and Rep. Albio Sires (D-West New York).
Gov. Phil Murphy says he has no plans to endorse in the Democratic primary.
Former public school teacher Amy Kennedy, ex-congressional staffer Will Cunningham, retired FBI agent Robert Turkavage an West Cape May Commissioner John Francis III face Harrison in the Democratic primary.
