Rep. Donald Payne (D-Newark) has endorsed Pamela Thomas-Fields for mayor of Atlantic City in the July 7 Democratic primary.
“She knows the value of inclusivity in her leadership and will work tirelessly to make sure all voices are heard,” said Payne, an Essex County Democrat. “I am proud to endorse her candidacy for mayor and stand by her dedication to improving the lives of all that call Atlantic City home.”
Thomas-Fields is the candidate of the Atlantic City Democratic organization, but the incumbent, Marty Small, Sr., is running on the county organization line. Thomas-Fields is bracketed with Bernie Sanders and U.S. Senate candidate Lawrence Hamm.
“This election is critical to securing a better future for residents and the millions of others that choose to visit Atlantic City each year,” Payne stated. “The challenges the city faces, whether economic or existential, must be met with thoughtfulness and compassion. Pamela is more than ready to rise to this occasional, and brings her bold leadership and decades of professional experience to the task.”
Thomas-Fields described Payne, a five-term congressman, as a dear and respected friend and said he “continues to inspire me to this day.”
