Democrat Cory Booker has filed for re-election to his seat in the United States Senate.
Booker’s campaign filed about 4,500 signatures with the New Jersey Division of Elections electronically this afternoon, his campaign said.
Volunteers stopped gathering signatures several weeks ago when social distancing policies to prevent the spread of COVID-19 went into effect.
Booker faces a primary challenge from Lawrence Hamm, a former Newark school board member who chairs Bernie Sanders’ New Jersey presidential campaign. Hamm filed more than 2,500 signatures last week.
A former Newark mayor, Booker won a 2013 special election to complete the term of the late Frank R. Lautenberg. He was re-elected in 2014.
