Bob Menendez approvals at 40%, Monmouth poll shows

U.S. Senator Bob Menendez has a 40%-43% approval rating in a new Monmouth University Poll released this morning.

Menendez was re-elected to a third term in the U.S. Senate in 2018 by a 54%-43% margin after being savaged by nearly $40 million in negative ads.

He has six years to enhance his approvals before he again faces New Jersey voters.

The senator’s 40% approval is not far behind Gov. Phil Murphy (43%) and U.S. Senator Cory Booker (48%).

An April Monmouth poll had Menendez at 37%-38%.  His all-time high in a Monmouth poll was 51%-41% in April 2014.

Menendez holds two records for New Jersey Senate candidates: the most votes received by a Senate candidate in a mid-term election, and the most votes received by a Senate candidate in a presidential year.

The Monmouth University Poll was conducted from February 8 to 10, 2019 with 604 New Jersey adult and has a margin of error of +/- 4%.
