Monmouth poll with Murphy approvals coming tomorrow

By David Wildstein, September 16 2019 2:00 pm

Monmouth University will release a poll on Tuesday with job approval ratings for Gov. Phil Murphy.

The Monmouth poll, which has become the gold standard for New Jersey, will include questions concerning Murphy’s handling of the Newark water crisis, and whether the governor’s policies have helped or hurt New Jersey.

A February 2019 Monmouth poll had Murphy’s approvals at 43%-40%.

The last poll showed almost  six out of ten New Jerseyans (59%) are unaware of the Al Alvarez scandal that has dominated Murphy’s news cycles for the last four months.   Of the 41% who have heard something, 68% believe the Murphy administration mishandled the hiring and 12% say it was handled properly.  More than half (51%) think that people in the administration tried to cover something up, while 34% believe the governor’s staff really in unsure about how Alvarez got hired.
