U.S. Senator Bob Menendez is using a pair of new digital ads to talk about opponent Bob Hugin’s record on women and members of the LGBTQ community.
“When women fought for equal opportunity and a seat at the table at Princeton, Bob Hugin stood on the wrong side. When his gay and lesbian classmates were targets of hate, he threatened them and fought to deny them anti-discrimination protections,” said Menendez spokesman Steve Sandberg. “To this day, Bob Hugin supports candidates and causes that work to undermine LGBTQ and women’s rights. He stands with Donald Trump who admitted to sexually assaulting women and continued to donate to Trump even after 15 women came forward with credible allegations against him. He supports Trump Supreme Court nominees Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh who would overturn Roe v. Wade. And he refuses to support the women courageously coming forward with mounting allegations of sexual assault against Kavanaugh. Bob Hugin is anti-women, anti-LGBTQ and will never be on our side.”
Last Friday, Menendez held a rally outside Princeton University to talk about Hugin’s record.
Hugin criticized Menendez for dredging up an old issue.
“Bob Menendez is trying to paint me as something I’m not. I’m proud that my views have evolved over the four decades and I view that as a positive,” Hugin said. “It’s unfortunate that someone who has spent 25 years in Washington has nothing positive to campaign on and instead has to resort to political attacks like these.”
