Union Democrats back Graner, Mehrotra for Assembly

By David Wildstein, March 06 2021 1:26 pm

Union County Democrats picked Bernards Democratic Municipal Chair Elizabeth Graner and Mountainside Democratic Municipal Chairs Anjali Mehrotra to run for State Assembly in the 21st district.

Mehrotra defeated Scott Salmon, an attorney who serves as counsel to Rep. Tom Malinowski’s congressional campaign.

After a 5-5 tie, Union County Democratic Chairman Nicholas Scutari cast the deciding vote for Mehrotra.

It’s not immediately clear if Salmon, who shares the organization line in Somerset with Graner, will mount an off the line bid in Union County.

Bibi Taylor, the Union County finance director, finished fourth.

Roselle Park Mayor Joseph Signorello was unopposed for Senate and will take on Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick for the open seat.
