The National Organization for Women of New Jersey PAC has endorsed Gov. Phil Murphy for re-election.
The group also endorsed their own president, Anjali Mehrotra, who is running as a Democrat for State Assembly in the 21st district.
But they stopped short of backing a second Assembly candidate in a race where all four candidates are women: incumbent Nancy Munoz (R-Summit) is seeking re-election on a ticket with Republican Michelle Matsikoudis, a New Providence councilwoman; Bernards Township Democratic Municipal Chair Elizabet Graner is running with Mehrotra.
Two years ago, the endorsements went to Democrats Lisa Mandelblatt and Stacey Gunderman.
NOW NJ is also backing Assemblywoman Annette Quijano (D-Elizabeth) for re-election. She is one of six candidates in the race for two Assembly seats in the 20th district.
“Now, more than ever, we need to elect feminist men and women, and especially women of color. Representation matters, and we need diverse voices to ensure that underserved communities are not left behind,” said Linda Weber, the NOW NJ PAC chair. “The events of the past year have highlighted the inequities and weaknesses of our systems and we need candidates who will fight for civil rights and legislation that drives equity.”
The organization had previously endorsed Valerie Vainieri Huttle for State Senate in the 37th district Democratic primary.
