Two Bergen County assemblymen today backed Jack Ciattarelli for the Republican nomination for governor, the latest in a stream of endorsements that followed Monday’s campaign reset.
“Now is the time for Republicans in Bergen County and New Jersey to unite and back Jack. Our Party desperately needs unity,” said Assemblyman Christopher DePhillips (R-Wyckoff). “Collectively, as a team, our Party can focus on devoting our energy and our resources on picking up seats starting today. I’m proud to endorse Jack and look forward to running with him in November.”
DePhillips also praised former GOP State Chairman Doug Steinhardt, who exited the race last night and appears to have cleared the field for Ciattarelli to challenge Gov. Phil Murphy.
“Doug’s commitment to the Republican Party is without question and I commend him for making what was probably a very difficult decision in deciding to not to run,” DePhillips said.
The senator from the 40th district, Kristin Corrado (R-Totowa), had endorsed Ciattarelli earlier.
Also backing Ciattarelli is DePhillips’ running mate, Kevin Rooney (R-Wyckoff).
We cannot afford another term of Phil Murphy as our Governor,” Rooney said.
