Murphy opposing Barclay’s Camden Parking Authority nomination

Gov. Phil Murphy is opposed to former Assemblyman Arthur Barclay’s taking a post on the board Camden’s Parking Authority.

“I was surprised. There is a involvement on something like that by the Department of Community Affairs. We’re already in touch with that department,” Murphy said at an unrelated press conference Tuesday. “I think our view on that should speak for itself. I’m personally not supportive, and we’ll be discussing that with DCA.”

Barclay, a Camden County employee, resigned from the Assembly last year after the New Jersey Globe reported he had been arrested on domestic violence charges.

Tuesday morning, Politico New Jersey reported Barclay was up for a job on Camden’s Parking Authority.

Politico’s Matt Friedman later tweeted that the DCA told Camden’s City Council that it would veto Barclay’s nomination if it went through.

The charges against Barclay were eventually dropped after the victim failed to appear at a hearing last August.
