Rosemarie Farr DePhillips, the mother of Assembly Minority Conference Leader Christopher DePhillips (R-Wyckoff), died on January 24. She was four days away from her 91st birthday.
DePhillips served as a Republican county committeewoman in Old Tappan, and served on the board of Vantage Health Systems.
In a 2006 interview with the Associated Press, DePhillips said allegations of corruption against U.S. Senator Bob Menendez led her to decide to vote for the GOP nominee, then-State Sen. Tom Kean, Jr. Kean had knocked on her door during that campaign.
“It’s embarrassing to go out of town and say you’re from New Jersey, and people say, ‘Oh, that corrupt place,” said DePhillips. “Tom Kean’s father was such a wonderful governor, and I think the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”
In addition to her son, DePhillips is survived by a daughter and son, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. His husband of 46 years, Fred, died in 2004.
A wake is set for Friday, January 30 from 2-7 PM at the Pizzi Funeral Home in Northvale. A funeral mass will be held at the St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church in Old Tappan, on Saturday, January 31, at 10 AM.
