Winner Losers
CORY BOOKER CHRIS CHRISTIE
The United States Senator from New Jersey and possible candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, gets a premier speaking spot at the Iowa Democratic Party fundraiser next month. The former Governor of New Jersey remains a magnet for controversy, this time a fight with Bob Woodward over a new book that alleges, among other things, that President Trump thought he was a jinx.
LOUIS STELLATO ANDY KIM
The Bergen County Democratic Chairman is nominated to the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority by Acting Gov. Sheila Oliver. The Democratic congressional candidate continues to face allegations that he exaggerated his resume.
JERRY GREEN WILFREDO BENITEZ
The late Assembly Speaker Pro Tempore is honored posthumously by the naming of a plaza in his hometown of Plainfield with Gov. Phil Murphy, Sen. Bob Menendez and other key political leaders paying tribute to him. The “I’m a fucking judge” who sits on municipal courts in East Orange and Belleville is censured after having a Caren Turner moment during a DWI stop.
JOE KYRILLOS TEDDY PRICE
The former State Senator, who retired this year after 30 years in the Legislature, is the new Pubic Servant in Residence at Monmouth University. The Democratic candidate for Ocean County Freeholder loses the support of his part — both of them — after endorsing Republican Bob Hugin for U.S. Senate.
JOE DIVINCENZO FRED GATTUSO
The Essex County Executive, along with others throughout the state, stages a dignified and moving tribute to Americans who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The Republican candidate for Mayor of Carteret is under fire for racist rants on social media — something Gattuso denies, claiming he was framed.
