Thompson: Not much more we could do in budget fight

Republican Senator praises Sweeney

By Nikita Biryukov, July 09 2018 4:31 pm

ATCO – Republicans didn’t have much to do with the recent budget fight, and Sen. Sam Thompson (R-Old Bridge) doesn’t think they could have done much more.

“I think we did about what we could with it. While they were fighting among themselves, hopefully they were going to reach their decision between them and I thought (Senate President Steve) Sweeney did a great job. Not bad by the Speaker either,” Thompson said. “But, since they got together, they didn’t need us too much.”

With majorities in both chambers of the legislature and control of the governorship, the latter sentiment might sting some Republicans, but at least it keeps Democratic infighting in the spotlight.
