Regardless of how the race for West New York’s county committee seats turns out, Mayor Felix Roque isn’t worried about losing his seat in 2019.
“Oh, I’m not worried about my election. Not at all. I tell you – name recognition – you can see it right here,” Roque said as an elderly man greeted him and shook his hand at that exact moment. “My name recognition is out the roof. I have the support of the community. We have lowered the taxes. We have paved 90% of all the roads. We are number 38 in the nation as far as safe streets, security.”
If Roque is unable to secure seats for enough of his 58 county committee candidates today, it will embolden a challenger — like commissioner Cosmo Cirillo — to challenge him, especially if Amy DeGise beats Brian Stack for Hudson County Democratic chairman.
But, Roque’s won without party support before, and more than that, he’s willing to self-fund.
“If I have to put a million dollars out of my pocket to win, I don’t have a problem with that,” Roque said.
