A Democratic political consultant from New Jersey won a prestigious Reed Award for his work on Vin Gopal’s upset victory in a New Jersey State Senate race.
Mike Muller of Muller Public Strategies won the award, named after Campaigns & Elections magazine founder Stanley Reed, won the award titled “Unfinished Business” for “Best Campaign Comeback.
“I’m very proud to receive this honor for our work electing Vin Gopal to the New Jersey State Senate in the 11th Legislative District. When we first embarked on this campaign against a 12-year incumbent in a district that has not elected a Democratic to the State Senate since 1987, we knew the odds were daunting, but we believed victory was possible,” said Muller. “The year-long journey had many twist and turns on way to an amazing 7-point win. The moment we all knew something special was building, came on a snowy February night in Colts Neck, when nearly 100 local residents came out to meet our ticket and engaged in an issue-based dialogue. The road to overcoming a 20-point polling deficit had many small victories, and I’m so proud of the entire campaign team that made this victory possible.
