PATERSON, NJ – Today, U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Phil Murphy’s first budget address to the New Jersey legislature in Trenton:
“It is comforting to me that New Jersey has adult leadership again. Gov. Murphy’s budget proposal is a first big step towards cleaning up the mess left from eight years of vindictive incompetence. I like what I heard.
“I am most heartened by Gov. Murphy’s proposal to triple New Jersey Transit’s budget. Our commuters count on a functioning NJT for their well beings, and the fitness of the agency is decisive to New Jersey’s future.
“While passage of this renewed support is critical to getting the agency back to full operability, it does not reduce the need that Congress approve federal funding for the Gateway Tunnel project. The entire state delegation is united in seeing that that support is ratified into law. I continue to work every day to see that we are successful.
“I also applaud the governor’s proposal to increase the property tax deduction. After taking a wallop from the Republican tax scam, New Jersey’s middle class taxpayers need relief, and if passed, this budget will give it to them.”
