Two New Hampshire GOP presidential primary polls today poll show Nikki Haley gaining, Ron DeSantis dropping, and Christopher J. Christie in third place, way behind Donald Trump.
Trump leads Nikki Haley, 46%-18%, with Christie in third place with 11%. He’s followed by Vivek Ramaswamy (8%) and Ron DeSantis (7%) in a Monmouth University Poll.
Christie, the former governor of New Jersey, has upside-down favorables of 29%-60% in New Hampshire. Just 6% of Republicans would be enthusiastic if he were to win the GOP nomination, 29% said they would be satisfied, 29% indicated they’d be dissatisfied, and 32% would be upset to see him as their nominee.
“The enthusiasm gap between Trump supporters and other New Hampshire primary voters is better described as a chasm. Even though Haley is well-regarded, she just doesn’t spark the kind of emotional connection that helps the former president maintain his base’s loyalty,” said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute.
A CNN Poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire shows Trump leading Haley, 42%-20%, with Christie at 14% and DeSantis in fourth place with 9%. Ramaswamy is polling at 8% in New Hampshire.
Nearly half of New Hampshire Republicans (47%) said they would never support Christie, but the good news for him is that number was 60% in September.
Christie was at 5% in a Monmouth Poll released in November 2015, a seventh-place showing in a New Hampshire GOP primary survey that had Trump leading with 26%. Trump won that primary by a 35%-16% margin against John Kasich, with Christie finishing sixth with 7%.
